Encinitas, CA – Update on Travis Sewell’s condition after his crash on July 27th at a motocross race in Grayslake, IL. Travis was discharged from Condell Medical Center early last week where he returned home to a great support system that can help him start his road to recovery. Even though his injuries are extensive; 8 fractured ribs, a fractured tailbone, fractured T12, a cracked sternum, 2 fractures in his pelvis, and trauma to his leg and shoulder; he and his family are keeping positive and looking forward to the next step in the healing process. Travis is scheduled to see his doctors next week where they will start to map out this recovery journey.
Travis and his family are well aware that the next couple months are going to be hard. He is accepting this next challenge with the same gusto and perseverance that he does with racing. The Sewell family would like to thank everyone for the support and kind words.
Travis was kicked over the bars and injured Wednesday night, 7/27/16, at the Lake County Fair motocross race in Grayslake, IL. He remains at Condell Medical Center, IL at this time.
His injuries were:
bleeding on his brain (which has stopped)
2 collapsed lungs
6 broken ribs
Fractured pelvis
Fractured tailbone
Fractured T12 vertebra
He is still on a respirator to help him breathe. He is currently responsive, in quite a bit of pain but and in good spirits. His family says he’s expected to make a full recovery, but it will be a long road.
Travis was due to race in Costa Rica this weekend and as we know privateers are check to check chasing the dream. This kind of injury will require some support from the MX/SX/AX community. He finished 4th in the 2016 Amsoil Arenacross Series, Arenacross Class and competed in a few Lucas Oil Motocross Championship events this summer.
Travis’s parents just arrived at the hospital to be by his side. Any donation in any amount is greatly appreciated and please leave a positive message for them to keep them positive in this difficult time.
