This year (2017) the CCMA (Central Coast Motorcycle Association) has dedicated the Nathan Woods Memorial Off-Road Poker Run to raising funds for the benefit of Jessy Nelson through Road 2 Recovery, a purpose that Nathan would have whole heartedly supported. Jessy Nelson grew up locally riding the Pozo trails, and was mentored by the late Nathan Woods. The two racers practiced together, and even competed in the CCMA’s annual Hangover, in which Jessy was able to break Nathan’s long winning streak.

The event consists of a 35 mile trail ride through the scenic and challenging motorcycle trails in the Los Padres National Forest, Black Mountain District (known locally as “Pozo”.) The staging area is about 20 miles from Santa Margarita, California. Pancake breakfast will be available for riders at 8:00 a.m. Riders will draw cards at various stations along the route. After the ride is completed, the event concludes at the nearby historic Pozo Saloon. Riders will be entertained with music and prizes will be awarded to the riders with the best and even the worst set of cards. There will be tri-tip barbeque at the Saloon, and of course there will be plenty of beverages of all kinds available for your refreshment. In addition, there will be a fundraising raffle (which can get pretty loud and raucous!) and a silent auction. All proceeds for this event will go to the Road 2 Recovery to assist in Jessy Nelson’s recovery from a spinal cord injury. The CCMA welcomes all riders and non-riders to this event. It is a fun event supporting a worthy cause in memory of an accomplished and respected racer.

In addition to the off road ride, there will be an Adventure ride starting in Paso Robles at 8:30 a.m., covering about 125 miles or dirt and paved roads through the scenic hills and countryside of the Central Coast. The ride will also end at the Pozo Saloon for the fundraising activities.
